Latest Tip of the Week

By Gail Boushey
1/9/2026 • Issue #914

“The best part of winter break wasn’t just the rest. It was the conversations.”

That thought stayed with me after meeting my friend Janet over break. Like so many teachers' conversations, once there was time to pause, we checked in on one another, shared what had been going well, and talked through parts of the work that needed more thought. On my way home, I felt lighter and steadier. I was reminded that the questions I was carrying were shared ones and that I wasn’t carrying them alone.

Connection matters for teachers because so much of our work happens in moments most people never see. Each day brings countless decisions about how to fit everything in while responding to the needs of our students.

Staying connected gives us space to think alongside others. It helps us gain perspective and respond with intention as we keep moving forward.

Some of that connection lives in our buildings through colleagues we plan with or check in with throughout the day. Some of it comes from a wider professional community that reminds us we’re part of something bigger. Through shared conversations and ideas, we refine our practice and stay anchored in what matters most.

As you move through these first few weeks back, know that you don't have to do this alone. When the days feel full or your thinking feels heavy, let that be a cue to reconnect. A short conversation, a moment to reflect, or time spent thinking together can bring steadiness and clarity back when you need it most.
